The Anticipation
(Author Unknown)
I looked around for him
Not seeing
Not noticing
Not caring
About anyone else in the crowd
My eyes quickly scanned the throng of people
Some thinking
Some laughing
Some talking
Until they fell on him
My heart started thumping wildly
In hope
In fear
In anticipation
Just for him to look my way
I walked by and waved hello
A friendly wave
A tentative wave
A daring wave
So that he would notice
When his eyes fixed onto mine
My heart fluttered
My hope soared
My eyes sparkled
And a smile stretched across my face
I slowed my pace and said hello
Searching his eyes
Searching for the same feeling
Searching for a meaning
And to my consternation I did not find it
He spoke with caution and seemed
Uncomfortable
Disquieted
Awkward
And I in turn felt the same
My heart stopped
My smile faded
My eyes dropped
My hope disappeared
There was no more anticipation.
I thought that was a really interesting poem. anyways...
