last night was so much freaking fun. me and my sis went to the palo alto community theater to watch the complete works of shakespeare abridged. for those of you who don't know what that is, it's basically three actors who do ALL of shakespeare's 30 something plays as a parody. that was one of the FUNNIEST plays i've EVER seen. it was hilarious. i couldn't stop laughing. jessica jose's little brother was the loudest person in the audience. he was GUFFAWING so hard that jessica and her mom had to tell him to be quiet. haha

there's a part in romeo and juliet where romeo says "i swear by the moon," and juliet says "swear not by the moon, the everchanging moon..." so then the guy playing romeo says, "I swear by this virgin..." and he points to betsy. the guy playing juliet looks at her and says, "her? a virgin? nah i don't think so." it was hilarious. betsy's face was like utter shock. hahaha.

then when the guy was "puking" he aimed the silly string, i mean the puke, right at me. then he ran down the front row and sprayed everyone.

at the end they did hamlet, then they did hamlet faster, then they did it faster than that, and finally they did hamlet backwards. the first time they did hamlet they picked betsy to do ophelia's scream on stage. hahaha. it was so funny when they did hamlet backwards. in hamlet, ophelia kills herself by drowning and in the play she drowned by dumping a cup of water on herself...so when they did it backwards she spit the water back out at the audience. thank goodness it missed me.

at one point in the play one of the actors said, "i see we have a lot of kids here tonight. in the front row here, washington high..." then we all started cheering =D. it WAS pretty cool though, cuz everyone in the front row and half the second row were all huskies =D.

souvenirs....michelle got a fake purple rose, and i got a crumpled pamphlet which i think i lost. haha.

romeo and juliet was the best parody, they did the andronicus one as a cooking show, all the comedies were narrated really quickly as ONE play in about three minutes, the histories were done as a sports game (example: king lear fouls henry VI), and the tragedies were the FUNNIEST =D. for all you harry potter fans out there: during a sword fight, one of the actors was trying to take the other person's sword, and after a lot of unsuccessful attempts he said, "expaillarmus" and the other guy's sword dropped. hehe.

they made HECK of republican party/george bush jokes in the play. i think those were among the funniest jokes. i probably didn't get a lot of the jokes since i didn't read most of shakespeare's plays, and a lot of jokes are subtle changes in shakespeare's script that you would only notice if you knew the play REALLY well. example: in romeo and juliet, juliet says "a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet." but in the parody the guy said "a nose by any other name would still smell." hahaha...subtle jokes like that were funny =D.

i was so amazed by how GOOD the play was. i mean, THREE actors doing all of shakespeare's plays. they made the audience laugh through their speech, their actions, their facial expressions, and everything else. and you could tell how much dedication they had. doing hamlet backwards must've been heck of hard. "be to not or be to." haha. i could tell they put so much time and energy into the play. everything they did had the same amount of emotion and energy and it never died down once. they had good audience interaction also. it was great...a good time all around =D.

thanks for hooking me up with the tickets michelle!
